Excillum is awarded this years’ “Best optics and photonics company of the year” by PhotonicSweden as a recognition for the importance of combining deep knowledge in basic science with highly innovative technology. By choosing Excillum AB as the photonics company of the year 2018 PhotonicSweden wishes to shine light on how innovation within photonics is going into new vistas – smarter applications at shorter wavelengths.

Motivation by PhotonicsSweden: “Excillum AB is the inventor of the world’s brightest microfocus X-ray tube. After years of painstaking research and development, Excillum AB has turned an innovative source technology into a product range of stable and reliable X-ray sourcesThe company’s product portfolio, initially small, has developed and expanded over time with higher acceleration voltages and further improved power-loading capabilities. Based on the MetalJet microfocus X-ray source technology the company has developed products that can generate more than 10 times the X-ray brightness of a conventional solid anode X-ray source”.

“As a highly innovative and technological company, a recognition of this kind confirms that we are on the right track and we are truly grateful to receive this reward for our hard work and efforts over time”, says Björn Hansson, CEO of Excillum. “It is a great honour to become part of the distinguished group of companies awarded this prize”, he concludes.

Excillum AB is a leading company in the field of high-end, microfocus X-ray sources. Excillum was founded in 2007 by a group of researchers from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. Excillum designs, develops and manufactures a high-brightness, microfocus X-ray source based on MetalJet technology. Unprecedented X-ray intensities are achieved with this unique, patented technology. The second generation MetalJet X-ray sources are now available for applications such as diffraction/scattering (XRD, SAXS), Spectroscopy (XRF, XPS), Imaging (NDT, CT, XRM, phase contrast) etc. Excillum has reached a strong market position and is now in an expansive phase. www.excillum.com
