Redefining the X-ray tube

Excillum is the company behind the world’s brightest X-ray tube. The MetalJet is based on the unique metal-jet technology where the traditional solid anode of X-ray tubes is replaced with a jet of liquid metal.

The metal-jet technology was invented by our company’s founders in 1999. Today, we offer a growing range of the MetalJet and NanoTube X-ray sources based on our key technologies, to customers all over the world.

We are headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, where we have R&D, engineering and production all in house. We cover the world with our own sales and service & support teams, and via a network of OEM partners and distributors.

Our story

The invention

It started already in 1999 with the invention of the liquid-metal-jet-anode principle by Prof. Hans Hertz and Ph.D. student Oscar Hemberg. The technology was then further refined by Ph.D. students Mikael Otendal and Tomi Tuohimaa. At that time the four founders-to-be were affiliated with KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
