Welcome to another brief update from us at Excillum, where we would like to introduce our latest addition to the MetalJet family as well as show a few examples of SAXS applications using MetalJet sources. Product Focus – MetalJet C2
We are proud to present the latest addition to our product portfolio.
The new MetalJet C2 will complement the existing product range by offering an entry-level alternative, enabling more users to benefit from the MetalJet technology and its capacity. The MetalJet C2 is built on similar technology as the more advanced MetalJet D2+. The two models are compatible so that the user may upgrade their MetalJet C2 unit to become a MetalJet D2+ at a later stage.
Application Focus – Time Resolved SAXS
With the tri-annual International Conference on Small Angle Scattering, SAS2018 just around the corner we think it is a good time to present a few examples of how SAXS instruments equipped with MetalJet X-ray sources can perform time resolved measurements traditionally only done on synchrotron light sources.
SEC-SAXS for Bio Applications
SEC-SAXS is an advanced technique where chromatography is used to separate the protein monomers from dimers and other complexes. This allows a short time window where the highest accuracy measurements of the molecular envelope can be performed. Recently this has been successfully performed by Scientists from University of Copenhagen using a BioXolver from Xenocs SAS equipped with a MetalJet. Please, click here for the appl. note!

Material Science SAXS
Researchers at Slovak Academy of Sciences have performed a wide variety of time resolved SAXS studies on their custom Bruker AXS Nanostar instrument equipped with MetalJet. Examples of studies are in-situ test of strain gauges based on monolayer of colloidal gold with 10 sec. temporal resolution, crystallization and phase separation kinetics of P3HT during solvent annealing. In the latter example the temporal resolution of the GI-SAXS and GI-WAXS was 10 sec. and 2.5 sec. respectively which enabled a detailed study of the crystallisation and phase separation kinetics.

Summary of key parameters obtained from >100 scatter patterns at different crystallisations stages of the P3HT:PCBM mixture. It is clear that reactions happen fast and to capture the kinetics, an X-ray source enabling short measurement times is needed. The window of crystallisation as indicated in the figure is around 100 sec.

We have had a very busy event season, meeting many of you in person at conferences all around the world – which has been great! We have been talking to so many people, both old and new friends, and had so many engaging discussions regarding MetalJet technology and X-ray applications.
